This piece references Boticelli's "Nastagio meets the woman and the knight in the pine forest of Ravenna". An episodic set of paintings that illustrate one of the stories in Giovanni Boccaccio's Decameron.
The story is of an encounter between Nastagio and a dreamlike apparition—the ghost of a knight, pursuing a woman to her death in the pine forest. Nastagio learns that the ghosts are doomed to repeat this final act forever. His skilful manipulation of these unusual circumstances to accomplish his own ends alludes to the recurrence of dreams and the promise of lucidity as his actions span the two worlds, that of the supernatural and that of his own subjective reality.
A C-Type (Chromagenic print) is a traditional photographic print where the paper is exposed using lasers projecting a digital image on to the paper rather than a bulb shining light through a negative. The paper is then processed in the traditional way using photographic developer, followed by a bleach fix and wash to remove the chemicals from the paper. The result is a colour photograph of the highest quality.
